Pippa's Condo

June 17, 2007: Pippa's Birthday

Philippa Joan Barton (Pippa) was born on June 17, 1977 at the Florence Nightingale Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. Pippa was our third child, and only daugher. Her brother, Christopher, (a.k.a. Topher to family; Chris to his wife and friends) was born in Portsmouth, England, on August 3, 1973. Our second son, Andrew, was born on September 9, 1975 in Portsmouth, Enland, and passed away on October 28, 1975. I was pregnant with Pippa when we moved to South Africa in February, 1977 and we chose the Florence Nightingale Hospital because Pippa's father, Jeremy Barton, was born there on August 25, 1949.

Pippa was a tiny baby and toddler, but had the heart of a titan! She was determined (some might say stubborn?) but charming, motivated, sociable and as sweet as they come. This is a report from her Nursery School Teacher in 1982.

She showed a talent for dancing in Nursery School when she was 5, so her teacher suggested we consider dancing lessons. After she started school in Amanzimtoti she began her dancing lessons at the Jillian Southgate School of Dancing. She was a natural and came away three years in a row with the Most Outstanding Allrounder Cup! For her ballet, tap and jazz.

Jill put on a show every two years and I have compiled some video clips of her dancing performances. These are very old Video clips, which Sue had converted to DVD and then I converted to wmv, but nevertheless, we see our little Darling putting her heart and soul into every performance! I've also included three clips of her taken at her Dad and Sue's house in 1989/1990.

Joanne gave Pippa an autograph book during her first visit to Canada, Christmas 1990 and here are the entries from family. There are some precious words here from very precious people. Very poignant Please click on photo below to view entries. indeed.

Make yourself comfortable and ENJOY!

Pippa and I were involved in a Pantomimine together in Amanzimtoti in 1989. A good time was had by all!

Pippa and Debbie were great friends and although many miles separated them over the years they remained the best of buddies. I will be adding a photo album shortly but in the meantime, here is a photo of them both when they made their First Holy Communion together. Unlike in Canada, the children don't wear white.

I found this little plastic card amongst her many treasures when I went through her things in Port Elizabeth.

At 23 Pippa purchased her own home, a lovely condo in Toronto. Our friend, Janette, gave Pippa some excellent advice which helped her pluck up the courage and use some funds she'd inherited to put a deposit on this property. She was very excited about her new acquisition.
